Railhead: The Sequel
It's still six months until it will be published, but I'm very happy to announce that my next project will be RAILHEAD 2. I introduce a big new world in the first book, and of course there wasn't really space to explore a lot of the background details, so I'm delighted that OUP are giving me a chance to revisit the Network Empire in a second book, continuing the stories of some of the characters, and introducing new ones.(The October publication date is for the UK, by the way. I hope to have news of a US date soon.)
Railhead: The Motion Picture
I don't think I've mentioned here that the film rights to RAILHEAD were acquired last year by Warner Brothers. I believe the director currently associated with it is Doug Liman, who made Edge of Tomorrow, one of my favourite SF movies of recent years, so it's in very good hands. As anyone who's been waiting for a Mortal Engines adaptation will know, selling the rights is no guarantee that a movie will actually be made anytime soon, or even at all, but it's still better than not selling the rights, so fingers crossed...

Congratulations on all this great news (both hew and old). Talking of cinematic adaptations of your work: has there been any movement on Goblins?
Thanks, Tim! I'm told Goblins is progressing well, but it's still not at the script stage, let alone greenlit. Movies are agonisingly slow. I mentioned to a Famous Screenwriter recently that I hadn't heard a thing about the Mortal Engines movie for ten years and he said 'Oh, ten years is NOTHING..." So hope springs eternal : )
Ever since I finished reading Scrivener's Moon I've been hoping for an eighth Mortal Engines or new science fiction novel and this looks fantastic. A sequel planned and movie rights already acquired only makes me more excited. Congratulations are in order! The idea sounds like it could easily surpass the Mortal Engines quartet and prequels. These are another two books to add to my ever growing pile of reading material.
Thanks, Sebastian. I hope it lives up to the hype! I think it has something of the same spirit as Mortal Engines; I certainly had the same sort of feeling about it while I was writing.
It will be an enormous relief when this book becomes available and I can begin reading it. The waiting period has been brutal. I desperately need a source of enchantment in my life, and one stuffed with top-rate world building and stunning visual description will do just fine.
